About Studio JA

Studio JA is the creative practice of James Alexander, an internationally exhibiting glass artist born in Plymouth and raised in the quiet beauty of rural Cornwall. Now based in Australia, James creates all Studio JA works between the Gold Coast and Melbourne, while exhibiting his distinctive glass pieces across the globe.

With a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts from Bournemouth University, where he specialised in glassblowing, and a Foundation in Applied Arts from Plymouth College of Art and Design, James has spent over a decade refining his approach to glass as a sculptural and functional medium.

Before founding Studio JA, James worked extensively across the UK and Europe with some of the most respected names in contemporary glass, including London Glassblowing, Simon Moore, and the Nationaal Glasmuseum in the Netherlands. These experiences laid the foundation for his own creative voice—bold, expressive, and rooted in a deep understanding of glass as a living material.

At Studio JA, James crafts both one-off pieces and batch-produced artworks for collectors, designers, and exhibitions. Whether it’s a bespoke lighting installation or a gallery sculpture, each work is a conversation between form, light, and the elemental nature of molten glass.
